Silvertime, a high street gaming centre firm, has bought the lease to the former Lloyds Bank unit on Earl’s Court Road, just on the corner of Hogarth Road. While there has been no planning or licencing application submitted to the Council, nor do we know about their actual plans, this is still a concern. Silvertime already has premises on Earl’s Court Road close to the new location, which would presumably be replaced by this larger unit.
Earl’s Court Conservatives oppose the further introduction or expansion of betting shops or adult gaming centres on Earl’s Court Road. We don’t believe they contribute positively to our local economy and harm the development of our high street by discouraging other businesses from investing as well as fuelling addiction and anti-social behaviour. We are confident there is no demand from Earl’s Court residents for this kind of business and Earl’s Court Conservatives will campaign hard against its opening — we can do far better on what will be a prime spot along Hogarth Road, which the Council is investing in redeveloping.
The Council’s own Statement of Gambling Policy, as well as the New Local Plan, provide numerous grounds for rejection. We will be making that case should Silvertime bring forward any licencing/planning application and will encourage residents to back our campaign.
