Your West Central London Assembly Member Tony Devenish is working with Chelsea & Fulham MP Greg Hands and the Conservative Councillor group for Hammersmith & Fulham, together with local residents, campaigning for an urgent solution to the need for a river crossing between Hammersmith and Barnes.
Following the closure of Hammersmith Bridge by Labour-run Hammersmith & Fulham Council, local residents have been burdened with unacceptable inconvenience across Hammersmith & Fulham, and the wider West and South West London. We are all suffering long delays to journeys, greater congestion on our roads, and added pollution.
With schools returning in September, and life beginning to look a little more normal again, we need action from LBHF Council and the Mayor now.

We the undersigned are calling for the installation of a temporary road bridge open to pedestrians, cyclists, emergency vehicles, buses and cars between Hammersmith and Barnes as quickly as possible, and an emergency solution for critical journeys across the river. We call on the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and Sadiq Khan to find an adequate remedy to ease the stress and inconvenience felt by local residents.
We are calling for LBHF and Sadiq Khan to:
1. Share their plans for both how the bridge will be repaired and how they propose that it will be funded by the middle of September at the latest.
2. Reconsider the proposal for a temporary road bridge, professionally developed by civil engineers, to relieve residents’ journey times, reduce congestion and air pollution.
3. Explore an emergency river crossing shuttle service for school children and other critical journeys and if feasible commission before the start of September.
