Felicity Buchan recently joined Tony Devenish AM and Cllr Janet Evans for a visit to The Hunter's Moon in Kensington to celebrate the introduction of the updated regulations for pubs.
During the visit to the pub, Hubert, the owner, and Alan, the manager, emphasized the importance of backing pubs and the broader hospitality industry post-pandemic. Whether it's recent announcements or past support initiatives such as loans, relief efforts, job retention schemes, or 'Eat out to Help out', rest assured that the Government is firmly supportive of local businesses.
Felicity Buchan was particularly impressed by the pub's dedication to sourcing quality ingredients, providing excellent food, and fostering a positive workplace environment for its valued staff.
Further details on the changes:
The duty paid on drinks on tap in pubs will now be reduced by up to 11p compared to supermarket prices. These adjustments aim to enable pubs to compete fairly with supermarkets and continue thriving as integral community hubs nationwide. The Brexit Pubs Guaranteed introduced in the Chancellor's Spring Budge, ensures that pubs will always pay less alcohol duty than supermarkets moving forward.
Today's changes automatically reduce duty in shops and supermarkets on various popular UK beverages, including certain types of hard seltzer, pre-mixed gin, and tonic, pale ale, Irish cream, coffee liquor, and English sparking wine, among others.
These reforms aim to foster a thriving and equitable landscape for both pubs and customers alike.
